Who We Are

Mission Statement: We are St. Thomas: Engaging, Empowering, Sending, Serving; Growing as a community in Jesus Christ

We believe faith is active. God calls us to engage in learning, worship, fellowship, and daily practices that reflect our faith at home, work, school, and in the broader community.

The Holy Spirit equips us to love God and neighbor. Through scripture, worship, and fellowship, we are strengthened to witness to God’s goodness in our lives.

We embrace our call to share Christ’s love beyond our walls. Rooted in our common faith, we are sent into the world to extend Christ’s compassion and hope.

We are a congregation that is committed to serving those in need. Our ministries offer opportunities to embody Christ’s love through acts of service.

Centered in Jesus, we seek to be a community that supports, learns from, and uplifts one another, honoring diversity, respecting differences, and acknowledging our shared humanity.

ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)

We are a congregation of the Nebraska Synod of the ELCA, the largest Lutheran denomination in the U.S. The ELCA is organized at the congregational, synodical, and churchwide levels. What We Believe

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”  -Psalm 119:105

We affirm the Bible as the living Word of God, guiding and shaping our faith. Scripture reveals God’s story of love, the teachings of Jesus, and the promise of abundant and eternal life.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast.”  -Ephesians 2:8-9

As Lutheran Christians, we believe salvation is God’s gift of grace. Though we fall short, God sent Jesus to conquer sin and death, offering us abundant life now and forever.

“We, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.”  -Romans 12:5

We believe the church is the body of Christ—people gathered for worship and sent for service. The church is not a building but a community that makes God’s love known through words, actions, and service.

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe.”  -Hebrews 12:28

Worship is something we do together—no matter your age or where you are in your faith. It’s less about what we get and more about lifting our thanks and praise to God. Whether you love traditional hymns or prefer our praise band, our services follow a simple rhythm of readings, prayer, music, and confession.

We celebrate two sacraments in our faith tradition.

  • Baptism – Baptism is how God claims us and washes us in forgiveness and grace. In baptism, we’re given a new identity as God’s beloved children and marked with the cross of Christ—something that stays with us throughout our lives and can never be erased.
  • Holy Communion – In Communion, we remember God’s endless love shown through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. With the bread and wine, we receive Christ’s presence, forgiveness, and the hope of eternal life. At St. Thomas, Communion is celebrated each week, and all are welcome at the Lord’s table.

What We Do

We believe that knowing God really makes a difference in our lives. When we connect with God, we find love, joy, and a sense of peace. We grow in that relationship through worship, scripture, forgiveness, and by supporting each other as a community.

As a community of faith, we are called to share God’s love with others, to bear witness to God’s presence, and to help others experience and know the goodness of God. We are challenged to look outward, beyond ourselves, and to shine the light of Christ to any in need.

At St. Thomas, we focus on creating community, nurturing faith, and building relationships. As a church family, our goal is to strengthen our relationship with God, while caring for and celebrating with one another through life’s ups and downs.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”  Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” – Matthew 22:36-39
