Why give blood?

  • The gift of blood is a gift of life.
  • Blood cannot be manufactured. It is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors.
  • A single blood donation can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more.
  • With someone in the U.S. needing blood approximately every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished.
  • Only 3 out of 100 Americans donate blood. That's not enough to fulfill the need.
  • One in seven patients entering a hospital will need a blood transfusion.
  • Your blood donation will help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency occurs. What a wonderful feeling knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life!

Why patients need blood: cancer, childbirth complications, trauma, sickle cell disease, surgeries, and transplants.

Donating blood is a quick community service! It only takes about an hour or less.

According to the Red Cross, donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative, and B negative. Type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone and is often used to treat trauma patients.

If you don't know your blood type, donating blood is a way to find out. After your donation, the Red Cross tests your blood for various factors including your blood type. This information is available in your online donor profile which you can access through the Red Cross Blood Donor app or website. Learn more about blood types here.

No matter your blood type, we urge all eligible donors to join us in the selfless act of giving blood! The short amount of time it takes to donate can mean life to a patient with a serious medical condition.

If you've not given blood before, what better way to start than surrounded by the support of your church family? Click here for more information about who is eligible to donate.

Would you please come help show those in need just how much we care?

  • Donation time for whole blood is 45-60 minutes. Whole blood donations can be made every 56 days.
  • Donation time for Power Red (double red blood cell donation) is 60-90 minutes. This is a type of donation where a special machine collects two units of red blood cells while returning the other blood components (plasma and platelets) to the donor. Double red cell donations can be made every 112 days.
  • For those who are currently donating platelets and plasma, please continue your scheduled donations, but we ask that you please volunteer to help with this blood drive. Please sign up to volunteer via the form at the bottom of this web page (set up, reception, canteen, tear down, or provide treats).

It's not every day that we get to do something with such an amazing impact! Thank you for your life-saving gift!
