"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made" Psalm 139: 13-14 NIV
Prayer shawls are created to offer comfort and solace to the seriously ill, those receiving medical treatments, dealing with the loss of a loved one, adjusting to a care facility, and for many other reasons.
Prayer Shawls are available for you to pick up at any time in the Outreach Center (upper level, Room 204). If you or a loved one are in need of a tangible reminder of God’s loving, healing presence, please take a shawl. May it be a reminder that you are surrounded by the love of God and by the prayers of others.
Please note that we do not ship or mail prayer shawls. You are welcome to pick up a prayer shawl to ship at your expense.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry mission is to reach those in need of comfort and Christian love. Prayer is the key throughout the process. As each shawl is knit or crocheted, we ask God to bless the one who will receive it. After each shawl is completed, it is offered a final blessing before someone receives it.
All are welcome to knit or crochet! We'd love for you to join us as we meet together or you can spend time creating on your own.
- We meet the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
Can someone teach me to knit or crochet? Yes! We would be happy to help beginners get started in this ministry. Come with willing hands and a prayerful heart and we will teach you something rewarding and fulfilling.
How can I support the Prayer Shawl Ministry?
- Pray for the ministry.
- Donations of yarn are appreciated. (Each shawl requires 20 ounces or 700 yards of yarn.) All donations of items should be delivered to the Outreach Center (upper level Room 204).
- Monetary donations can be placed in an offering box or delivered to the church office. Make checks payable to St. Thomas Lutheran Church with "Prayer Shawl Ministry" in the memo line.
- Thank you!
